Chinese public hospitals collect a deposit at inpatient admission, sized to your estimated treatment cost — commonly one to two weeks of projected charges. Phone-verified figures from July 2026: Shanghai's Huadong Hospital and Shanghai General Hospital require ¥20,000 at admission; Guangzhou's First Affiliated Hospital (SYSU) and Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital require ¥30,000, with surgical deposits at the latter running ¥50,000–80,000; Beijing Tiantan Hospital quotes ¥20,000–30,000 for minor inpatient stays and ¥50,000–100,000 for surgery; Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital quotes ¥30,000–40,000 for surgery.
