How much does a doctor visit cost in China?

At major public hospitals, standard registration fees are set by local governments. In Beijing, the medical service fee is ¥50 for a junior doctor, ¥60 for senior, ¥80 for associate chief physician, and ¥100 for chief physician per outpatient visit (public insurance reimburses ¥40 for insured locals). Guangzhou's 2026 schedule runs ¥25/¥39/¥50 by seniority; Shanghai's large hospitals charge roughly ¥14–25. International departments at the same hospitals charge far more — typically ¥600–1,200 per visit at PUMCH, for example — in exchange for English-speaking staff and longer consultations. Tests and medicines are billed separately. Figures from official municipal fee schedules, verified July 2026.
